I’ve heard that ‘family’ isn’t always about blood relatives. As a matter of fact, I recently saw a quote that said, ‘Here’s to the nights that turned into mornings with the friends that turned into family.’ I’m sure the author, unknown, had a different meaning or thought in mind, but what I immediately thought of was my nursing ‘family.’

My mom, Marjorie, is the little blonde in front. She was just 4 years old in 1945, but she remembers those dolls. She said her doll had blond hair like hers. Her sister Jean’s doll was a brunette just like her and her sister Elizabeth’s doll had red hair, just like hers! What a wonderful Christmas memory.

With Christmas right around the corner, I’ve been going through pictures for a couple of special projects. (Shh, Heartland Imaging is helping me with one of those projects.) But in the meantime, I’ve been updating my Nixplay frame here at home and reliving some of my favorite past Christmas memories.

I LOVE this time of year! Winter is my favorite season and the holidays make it even more special for me. I especially like decorating for Christmas. No color coordination here and there is no theme. Well, my family may argue that I do have a ‘Santa’ theme. But my decorations and tree are full of items that tell our story – my story.

How many of us had the old digital frames or have bought one for a grandparent? I know we bought one for each set of grandparents. The old digital frames were dependent on someone loading pictures on an SD card or a USB drive and switching them out periodically. If you lived far away or even if you didn’t, sooner or later those updates just didn’t happen.

...when we remember a wonderful meal or our favorite food it may not necessarily be the food, but the whole experience that influences our favorites. The environment, who we are eating with, and the conversation we have all matter when we are remembering the wonder traditional holiday food we enjoy.

I’m not sure exactly how it started, but my husband decided that he and our son were going to see a baseball game in every major league stadium by the time our son graduated high school. It took a little longer than initially thought – ok, 10 years longer – but they did it! Many times with my father in law joining them, so it was three generations on this mission.

Visiting a pumpkin patch in the fall is something many do for their fall family fun, and a lot of families will visit the same pumpkin patch year after year as a tradition. The Krause Family is no different. As a matter of fact, we’ve been going to the same pumpkin patch for over 30 years!

How did you meet your significant other? Did you meet at church, the gym, or were you high school sweethearts? How about a blind date?

I think becoming a Photo Organizer and Photo Life Manager was a natural fit for my love of family history and genealogy research. I’ve mentioned in previous blogs about great grandparents coming from different parts of the globe; some that I only kind of knew from family members talking about them over the years. I’ve learned some of the more specific details through our modern technology that has made research easier.

We have taken many family vacations, but for some reason we haven’t taken many old-fashioned family road trips. There is one though, and it is full of fun memories.

Why do we like to look at our family pictures? I think it’s not only fun to remember the things we celebrate, all of those seemingly little moments of our lives, but also to relive those vacations. I also enjoy remembering the loved ones I’ve lost over the years and try to get to know those I never knew or barely remember from my childhood.

My in laws have 11 grandchildren who live all over the country. For a few years my kids were the only two that lived in town. They were eventually joined by three more cousins who now call Kansas City their home.

As a Photo Life Manager, I help preserve and protect photographic memories and the stories these mementos have to tell, and thanks to my inner hoarder I’ve always kept little mementos like the note in the picture above.

Even if you aren’t finding random dolls left by friends in distant cities, it’s still important to preserve those pictures and memories. You can print and display those beautiful, scenic landscapes, or make a photo-book and tell the story of those fun people pictures. Just preserve and protect those memories.

My mom was born in August 1941, so she has fond memories of growing up in the 50’s. Hula Hoops, Elvis, drive-in theatres and cool cars.

With the resurgence of Polaroid Instant Prints, we've been running across video after video on the "emulsion lift" process.
